English: Thus the Aṣṭāṅga Hṛdaya is composed—neither excessively brief nor excessively detailed. Its eight branches are:

  1. Kāyacikitsā—internal medicine
  2. Bāla—paediatrics
  3. Graha—mental and traditionally described graha disorders
  4. Ūrdhvāṅga—diseases above the clavicle, including the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and head
  5. Śalya—surgery
  6. Daṃṣṭrā—poison and toxicology
  7. Jarā—rejuvenation and healthy ageing
  8. Vṛṣa—fertility and reproductive vitality

In brief, Vāta, Pitta and Kapha are the three doṣas.
