English: Thus the Aṣṭāṅga Hṛdaya is composed—neither excessively brief nor excessively detailed. Its eight branches are:
- Kāyacikitsā—internal medicine
- Bāla—paediatrics
- Graha—mental and traditionally described graha disorders
- Ūrdhvāṅga—diseases above the clavicle, including the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and head
- Śalya—surgery
- Daṃṣṭrā—poison and toxicology
- Jarā—rejuvenation and healthy ageing
- Vṛṣa—fertility and reproductive vitality
In brief, Vāta, Pitta and Kapha are the three doṣas.
